Raila Odinga Campaign Secretariat spokesperson Makau Mutua now claims that leaders from African Nations should stop congratulating or recognizing outgoing Deputy President William Ruto as Kenya’s President-Elect.
According to the accomplished lawyer, Ruto’s win is still on standby as the Azimio One Kenya Alliance seeks legal redress.
“No state should recognize William Ruto as President-Elect until all constitutional and legal processes are done in Kenya. Doing so prior to the exhaustion of the processes is tantamount to subverting the rule of law. Very disappointed some African states have jumped the gun,” he said.
The professor’s recent onslaught on DP Ruto comes on the heels of a scathing attack he launched on the Kenya Kwanza leader over what he termed as unlawful reception of political defectors.
Ruto has in the past few days received a host of defectors from Azimio and MPs elected as Independents.
Makau Mutua attacks Ruto on defections
Mutua poured cold water on the defections, saying they were of legal nullity.
“The law that led to the formation of Azimio La Umoja One Kenya — and its Deed of Agreement — set out the ground rules and conditions under which members can exit the coalition. There are clear guidelines.
“Ruto should know that it is illegal for him, or others, to induce members to purport to leave Azimio. No member of Azimio has legally invoked the process of leaving the coalition. All the members who signed as original members are still members in good standing. So, any purported defections are a legal nullity,” Mutua said in a press release.
