Kitui County MCA Cyrus Kisavi Musyoka has been charged with stealing 42 mobile phones valued at Ksh. 609,000 from a shop along Luthuli Avenue in Nairobi.

Musyoka, who represents Ikanga/Kyatune Ward in the Kitui County Assembly, appeared before the Milimani Chief Magistrates’ Court following his arrest on October 22, 2026. He denied the theft charge brought against him by the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

According to the prosecution, the alleged theft took place on August 5, 2026, at a mobile phone shop owned by Dahir Adan Mohamud along Luthuli Avenue.

The court heard that 42 Itel City 200 smartphones were allegedly stolen from the shop. Each handset was valued at Ksh. 14,500, bringing the total value of the missing phones to Ksh. 609,000.

However, the case against the MCA extends beyond the August incident. Investigators have reportedly linked Musyoka to two other alleged mobile phone theft incidents in Nairobi involving consignments worth Ksh. 1.8 million and Ksh. 420,000.

The two additional incidents are said to have occurred in August and September 2026, although further investigations are still ongoing.

The prosecution estimates that the combined value of the mobile phones allegedly stolen in the three incidents stands at Ksh. 4,906,050.

Following his arraignment, the prosecution opposed Musyoka’s release on bail, raising concerns about his alleged previous failure to attend court proceedings.

The prosecution argued that his past conduct raised questions about whether he would comply with court orders if released, adding that there was a risk he could abscond before the case is heard and determined.

In a separate application, investigators asked the court to allow them to detain the MCA for 15 more days to complete investigations into the alleged offences.

The requested period is intended to allow investigators to record statements from witnesses, conduct forensic analysis of CCTV footage and pursue other suspects believed to have been involved in the incidents.

Investigators also indicated that they needed additional time to establish the circumstances surrounding the alleged thefts and identify any suspected accomplices.

Principal Magistrate Geoffrey Onsarigo ordered that Musyoka be held at Kamukunji Police Station as the court prepares to hear the pending applications.

The matter was scheduled for November 5, 2026, when the court is expected to consider the prosecution’s opposition to bail and the request to detain the MCA for an additional 15 days.

The court will then determine whether investigators should be granted more time to complete their inquiries and whether Musyoka should be released on bail.

The charges against the Kitui MCA remain before the court, and the allegations are yet to be determined through the judicial process.
