A recruitment consultancy director has been charged in a Nairobi court over allegations that he defrauded four job seekers of Ksh.20 million by promising to secure them lucrative employment opportunities in the United Kingdom.

Alphonse Kioko Kivindu, 58, who operates Amble Beginning Consult Limited, appeared before Senior Principal Magistrate Geoffrey Onsarigo at the Milimani Law Courts on Wednesday, November 5, 2026, where he denied 12 charges brought against him.

The charges include conspiracy to commit a felony, obtaining money by false pretences and acquiring proceeds of crime.

According to the prosecution, Kivindu allegedly received Ksh.18.5 million from Joyce Wambui Njihia between January 2023 and February 2024 after claiming he could help her secure employment in the UK.

He is also accused of obtaining Ksh.200,000 from Frasiah Wambui Kinyua on April 13, 2023, through similar promises of securing her a job abroad.

In another transaction, the court heard that Kivindu allegedly received Ksh.500,000 from Mary Waithira Mburu between April 11 and April 18, 2023, after assuring her of employment opportunities in the United Kingdom.

Prosecutors further alleged that he collected Ksh.850,000 from Agnes Wanjiku Mandu between June and November 2023 under similar circumstances.

The prosecution told the court that the money allegedly obtained from the four complainants constituted proceeds of crime. The charges relating to obtaining money by false pretences were brought under Section 313 of the Penal Code, while the proceeds of crime allegations fall under the Proceeds of Crime and Anti-Money Laundering Act.

Kivindu was arrested on November 3, 2026, by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) near Machakos before being presented in court to face the charges.

During the court proceedings, his lawyer asked the magistrate to grant him lenient bond terms, arguing that his client was not a flight risk and was willing to attend court whenever required.

After considering the request, Magistrate Onsarigo granted Kivindu bond of Ksh.5 million or an alternative cash bail of Ksh.1 million. The court also directed him to provide two contact persons.

The case will proceed to pre-trial directions, during which the prosecution is expected to provide the defence with witness statements and documentary exhibits to support its case.
