The 2022 general elections were like no other in that many Kenyan celebrities joined the world of politics and decided to give it a shot. Some of them won, just like Jalang’o, a former KISS 100 Radio host and a comedian.

It was a bit unfortunate for others who lost the chance, and today, we are going to look at the celebrities who had joined politics but eventually failed.

Tonny Kwalanda
Tonny, a popular sports news anchor at Switch TV Kenya, was in the race for the MCA seat for Manda Shivanga County Assembly but unfortunately lost.

After the election, Tonny conceded defeat, and through his official Twitter account, he penned a message that read,

“The Manda Shivanga MCA race was tough, but we managed to cross the finish line. This would not have been possible without your generous support and prayers. We did not clinch the seat; however, I celebrate the experience and exposure. We soldier on with the work of God.”

MC Jessy
Jessy is a Kenyan stand-up comedian who has been in the entertainment industry for an extended period. His real name is Jasper Muthomi, and he joined politics,  eyeing the South Imenti Parliamentary seat under the United Democratic Movement ticket.

Muthomi lost the MP seat, and the situation forced him to concede defeat.

Anita Sonia
Anita is an environmental advocate who became popular after her infamous sex scandal with the famous comedian Terence Creatives. She was vying for the Kajiado North Member of Parliament seat.


Anita later conceded defeat after losing the seat to her opponent Onesmus Nguyo and promised to work with him.

Njambi Koikai
She is a well-known media personality who vied for the Dagoretti South Member of Parliament seat but later conceded defeat.


Kelvin Bahati
Bahati, mainly referred to as Mtoto wa Mama, joined politics to and was seeking the Mathare Member of Parliament seat under the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Alliance ticket but later lost to his opponent, incumbent MP Antony Oluoch of ODM.
