Agnes Kagure, a well-known businesswoman and philanthropist in Nairobi, is setting her sights once again on the city’s top leadership seat in the 2027 elections. Her entry into politics became widely noticed during the 2022 gubernatorial race, where she ran as an independent candidate and finished fourth. Even though she did not win, her campaign left a strong impression. Many Nairobians saw her as a serious and determined leader who brought a different kind of energy one grounded in discipline, business experience, and a real desire to improve the city.
Since that time, Agnes has continued to engage directly with Nairobi residents. She has not faded into the background like many political hopefuls do after an election. Instead, she has stayed active through various community initiatives, showing that her commitment is not just about politics during campaign seasons.

One notable moment came on Easter Monday, April 21, 2025, when she hosted a group of young women from a struggling part of the city. She described the event as a chance to “break bread” and share blessings, but it also served as a clear reminder that lasting change begins at the grassroots. For Agnes, building a better city starts with including those who are often left behind.

Through the Agnes Kagure Foundation, she has led efforts to tackle some of Nairobi’s toughest social issues. In December 2024, her foundation launched a campaign focused on ending gender-based violence. What made the initiative stand out was her decision to include men as active participants. She believes strongly that both men and women must be involved in creating safer communities. Her approach reflects a deeper understanding that real progress depends on unity and shared responsibility.
She has also not shied away from criticizing the current leadership in Nairobi, especially when it fails the people. After a devastating fire in Mukuru Kwa Njenga, she called out the county government for its slow response. She also raised concerns about the healthcare system, particularly after problems surfaced with the Social Health Authority rollout.
Her remarks matched what many Nairobians were already feeling frustrated by poor services and broken promises.

Support for Agnes continues to grow. In September 2024, a section of the Kikuyu Council of Elders publicly endorsed her for the 2027 race, citing her commitment to the people and her leadership record. They pointed out serious issues like the mistreatment of small traders, unfair bursary distribution, and neglect of basic services.
Women leaders have also praised her efforts in supporting women through mentorship and financial empowerment programs.
In 2024, Agnes faced legal troubles over allegations of land fraud, which she firmly denied. She described the case as politically motivated and vowed not to be distracted. Her reaction showed the same strength and focus she has maintained in both her business and political journey. Speaking to her supporters, she reminded them that her mission remains unchanged and more urgent than ever.

Her belief in long-term, honest leadership was also captured in one of her most memorable recent statements. “Building a nation is like constructing a strong, lasting building. It starts with digging deep and laying a solid foundation of values, education, and discipline. Each brick, like each citizen’s effort, matters. The masons, welders, planners, and foremen must all play their part diligently. Skipping steps or using shortcuts weakens the structure. But when everyone shows up, gives their best, and aligns to a shared vision, the result is a masterpiece that stands tall for generations. Do your part, give your best and we’ll all get there!”

Agnes Kagure continues to show that she is not just a speaker of fine words but a doer with real plans. Her ability to stay connected to ordinary people, push for meaningful change, and stay focused in the face of challenges makes her one of the most watched figures ahead of the 2027 race.
While Nairobi politics remains unpredictable, one thing is certain Agnes Kagure is not backing down, and many believe she could be the leader the city needs.
