The outgoing Nairobi senator Johnson Sakaja has claimed a plot involving government Officials including the chiefs, county commanders to execute rigging of election in favor of Azimio – One Kenya candidate Polycap Igathe for Nairobi gubernatorial position.
Speaking on Sunday after attending church service at St Francis Catholic Church in Kasarani, where he had been flanked by a dozen of Kenya Kwanza allied candidates, Sakaja alleged that sections of government officers were being used to intimidate Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to from executing its constitutional obligation and interfere with elections.
He urged the area chiefs to keep off election process and stick to reinforcing security during and after general election.
“Chiefs should keep off election process. Your work is to provide security and ensure Kenyans are receiving services from the national government, stop being used to interfere with elections,” Mr Sakaja said.
According to embattled governor aspirant, chiefs have been instructed to collect voter identification cards from electorates and pay them with a fee especially in United Democratic Alliance (UDA) strongholds with the intention of suppressing Sakaja’s perceived votes.
He called upon government officers to desist from complicating the electoral agency’s preparedness to conduct next week Tuesday’s election.
“Why is the IEBC being bullied? This is an abuse of his office and we shall not tolerate any interference to the election process by anyone,” Sakaja said.
