The media plays a vital role in the country’s elections. One of the prominent roles the media plays is holding and airing the presidential debates. On Tuesday, the 2022  presidential debate was held at the Catholic University of East Africa.

Yvonne Okwara speaks

The Royal Media Services-owned media station Citizen TV’s senior journalist and news anchor, Yvonne Okwara, was among the journalists who got the chance to moderate the presidential debate eagerly waited by Kenyans in and outside the Nation.

Only two of four presidential candidates were p[resenting for the debate. This did not stop them from executing the debate. Only United Democratic Alliance party leader Deputy President Wiliam samoei Ruto and agano party leader mwaura were present. The Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya Alliance presidential candidate Raila Odinga and the Roots Party presidential candidate Goerge Wajackoya did not attend the debate.

As we said earlier, the deputy president William Samoei Ruto was interviewed by Yvonne Okwara from Citizen tv. Yvonne Okwara’s questioning of the deputy president was based on the whole nation.

The main topic that Okwara emphasized was corruption and the deputy president’s relationship with the current president Uhuru Kenyatta. Kenyans reacted by saying that Yvonne was biased and sounded like she was from the Azimio La Umoja-One Kenya alliance.
