Deputy President William Ruto has fired back at Azimio – One Kenya presidential candidate Raila Odinga over election rigging allegations, calling him to quit the election contest if he is unsatisfied and is still uneasy with the electronic/digital register.
Speaking on Thursday, 7th July, during a Kenya Kwanza rally in Loiyangalani, Marsabit, Ruto gunned Raila for sensing defeat in the August battle, prompting Azimio – One Kenya allies to cling on the election rigging claims to jeopardize Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) from conducting a credible election.
He added that no candidate has the liberty of blackmailing and purporting to give instructions to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC)
“I want to tell our competitors of Azimio wing, to make up your minds, whether you want to participate in this election, and if you don’t want to participate in this election, stop giving us threats and ultimatum. The IEBC is an independent institution, it cannot take instructions from any candidate. No candidate cannot blackmail or make ultimatum to IEBC. If we go that route, we are not going to have an election”
Ruto also stubbed at Raila for allegedly demanding an electronic register in 2017 during the controversial 2017 election at the supreme court.
“You are the people who said you wanted an electronic register, in 2017 you are the people who went to court demanding to have an electronic register, now you have changed goal posts, now you are telling us you want a manual register, please make up your minds, IEBC has said that they are ready to conduct the election on 9th of August. If you don’t want to participate in this election, quit and let those who are ready participate” Ruto stubbed at Raila.
He stated that Azimio – One Kenya faction has been boasting and chest thumbing for being assisted by the deep state and system and they should stop expressing fear ahead of the next election.
“Si hawa watu walikuwa wanatuambia wako na deep state na system, sai wameingiza wasiwasi ya nini? Wawache wasiwasi” he added.
