Johnson Sakaja has been mentioned by the family of the late Albert Ojwang as one of the people who made public promises after the young teacher’s death but has not yet fulfilled them, according to the father who says the family is still waiting for support while struggling with daily life.

In a recent interview, Albert Ojwang’s father explained that the family has gone through a very difficult period since June last year when they lost their son. He said that during the time of mourning, many people came forward to support them, and donations were given to help them settle immediate needs. However, he noted that those funds have since been used up, and the family now survives mainly through small-scale farming in their rural home.

He described a life that has become more focused on basic survival rather than stability, as they try to adjust without Albert, who was their main source of support.

The father also raised concern about promises made by different individuals during the burial period and shortly after. He mentioned Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja among those who visited the family and spoke about offering long-term assistance.

According to him, Sakaja made commitments that included helping Albert’s widow secure employment, supporting her access to affordable housing, and assisting the family in acquiring land where they could build rental houses to generate income.

These promises were made publicly at the time and were received with hope by the grieving family.

However, the father said that none of those commitments have been implemented so far. He explained that the widow is still without stable employment and the family has not received any land or housing support as earlier indicated. He added that while they understand that processes may take time, the lack of follow-up has left them uncertain and struggling to plan for the future.

Albert Ojwang, who was a teacher and blogger, left behind a young widow and a small child. His death deeply affected the family, and the initial support they received helped them manage the immediate aftermath.

Over time, however, the assistance reduced, and the longer-term promises have not materialized, according to the father.

Governor Sakaja had previously spoken about his connection with Albert, describing him as someone he had worked with in the digital space.

He had assured the family of continued support, including helping with education costs for the child and further training for the widow. At the time, these commitments gave the family hope that they would not be left alone in their struggle.
