National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula has admitted that the current faceoff between the government and opposition leaders is dangerous.
This comes amid an anticipated mass action declaration by Azimio La Umoja leader Raila Odinga tomorrow, after months of exchanges with President William Ruto and the Kenya Kwanza brigade.
The leader has warned that the happenings in the country will have negative effects, among them division between Kenyans allied to the government and those associating themselves with Raila.
It is for his reason that he is now calling for dialogue, indirectly stressing on the need for the two sides to come together and address that which is causing problems, for the sake of national unity.
The Ford Kenya leader has stated that wrangles have always been there after elections, but have been addressed through dialogue, and there is nothing preventing a repeat of the same this time.
“At every election, we’ve had arguments but we’ve come back to the table to dialogue and keep our country going. That is how we can hold our country together,” he said on Wednesday, reports The Star.
Wetangula, the fourth in command in Ruto’s government, made the remarks during the People Dialogue Festival held at the Nairobi National Museum.
He has now sought the help of democracy watchdogs including the Center for Multiparty Democracy Kenya (CMDK) to come in and save the situation by enlightening on the benefits of dialogue.
Wetangula pointed out that if the clash between Raila and Ruto are allowed to continue, then Kenyans can be sure that the problems they are currently dealing with will not go anywhere.
“The runaway poverty affecting our country is not affecting particular people of the popular. That’s why we have to come together,” he added.
