Deputy President William Ruto on Sunday, 11th June 2022, spoke about apprehending his running mate nominee and Mathira legislator Rigathi Gachagua when elected president in the August 9 contest.
Speaking during an exclusive interview with NTV Kenya, at his Karen Official residence, Ruto indicated that the Kenya Kwanza government will enforce financial independence to Judiciary and Criminal Justice entities such as the Inspector General’s office, Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) office, Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) offices to execute their respective duties independently without the interference of the state house.
“I will ensure financial independence in the criminal justice entities and judiciary so that they can independently discharge their respective duties without the interception of the state house. The constitutional rightful decisions they will be making will be independent, not by the influence of the office of president or any other person” Ruto told Joe, an NTV senior political journalist.
When asked if he will allow his deputy, Rigathi Gachagua to be prosecuted if found guilty in the ongoing graft cases flaring against him, Ruto assured that no one, including himself, relatives and close associates will be spared from facing the wrath of the law. He affirmed that if his deputy, Rigathi Gachagua, will be found guilty by the court, then he will be arrested and subjected to the law just like any other ordinary Kenyan regardless of his deputy president rank.
“If my deputy will be found guilty by the court, then he will be subjected to the law just like any ordinary Kenyan. That is the independence of the judicial system that we want to build. Unlike our competitors, Azimio – One Kenya, who are setting a judicial system that protects and defends various elites affiliated to their faction” he added.
He also informed that he will appoint the six judges rejected by the head of state president Uhuru Kenyatta on day one if elected president in the next election.
