Jimmy Wanjigi’s presidential bid was crushed today by the IEBC after he failed to present the required educational certifications. Wafula Chebukati gave the heartbreaking news to Wanjigi during the hearings, who lost his calm criticizing him.
Wanjigi honestly told Chebukati that he would not get away with it in clips released by numerous media outlets. Chebukati advised Wanjigi to address his followers outdoors rather than in the hall during the conversation.
Wanjigi has agreed to present his case before the elections tribunal. Wanjigi follows Mwangi Wairia and Kigame in being thrown out of the presidential election for failing to produce the required papers.
Additional drama is predicted as more candidates tour the IEBC offices in preparation for the 2022 general elections on August 9th. Ruto supporter Irungu kang’ata, on the other hand, was thrown out of the Murang’a gubernatorial campaign after it was revealed that his running Mate had not resigned on time from his position as a lecturer at the University of Nairobi.
Jimmy Wanjigi’s application was turned down because he did not show a genuine degree certificate, instead presenting his academic transcripts and a letter from Daystar University stating that he had completed his studies and was awaiting graduation.
Wafula Chebukati told Jimmy Wanjigi to conclude his speech, but Jimmy Wanjigi retaliated by instructing him not to touch him and urging him to take his followers away before the microphones were turned off, which is when Wanjigi fled.
Tension remains high at the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission board where several leaders have continued being disqualified from contesting for top seats in the country. This came after latest orders from the board to stop uneducated people from clinging power without the academic intelligence which is needed to perform the various duties. Many are yet to avail over panic for what is happening.
