Mark Muriithi Mwenje of the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) is currently leading the race for Member of Parliament in Embakasi West, according to a recent poll by Mwelekeo Insights.

The poll places him at the top with 29.2 percent support, ahead of Kennedy Odhiambo Odhat of Linda Mwananchi who follows closely at 25.4 percent. Peter Maina Chuma, also of DCP, sits in third place with 22 percent, while George Theuri of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) holds 20.2 percent. Brian Weke of Linda Mwananchi trails with 2.8 percent, and a small share of support goes to other candidates.

What the Numbers Show

The results paint a picture of a competitive contest in Embakasi West. Mwenje’s lead is clear but not overwhelming.

The gap between him and Odhat is under four percentage points, which means the race remains open.

Having two candidates from DCP in the top three also shows that the party has strong backing in the area, even if the votes are split between Mwenje and Chuma.

ODM’s George Theuri remains a solid contender, holding just over one-fifth of the support.

This mix of party strength and individual popularity is typical of Nairobi constituencies, where local issues and personal connections often matter as much as party labels.

Why This Poll Matters

Embakasi West is one of Nairobi’s busy and diverse constituencies. Residents care about jobs, housing, transport, and basic services.

A poll like this gives an early look at who people trust to speak for them in Parliament. It does not predict the final election result, but it shows the current mood among those who took part.

When one candidate from DCP leads and another from the same party sits in third, it raises questions about how the party will manage its internal competition.

At the same time, the strong showing by Linda Mwananchi and ODM candidates reminds everyone that no single party owns the constituency.

Local Voices and Everyday Concerns

People in Embakasi West face daily challenges that shape how they choose leaders. Many want someone who understands the struggles of informal settlements, traffic congestion, and limited opportunities for young people. A candidate who speaks clearly about these issues tends to gain trust.

The poll results suggest that Mark Mwenje currently connects best with a large share of respondents, while Odhat and Chuma also have solid support. George Theuri’s 20.2 percent shows that ODM still has a firm base.

These figures reflect more than party loyalty. They reflect how well each person has reached out to ordinary residents.

Looking Ahead to the Real Race

As the campaign season continues, these numbers can change. Candidates will hold meetings, visit estates, and talk about their plans. Supporters of the leading names will work hard to keep or grow their share.

Those further down the list will try to close the gap.

In a place like Embakasi West, small shifts in support can make a big difference. The fact that four candidates each hold more than 20 percent of the support shows how tight the contest could become. Parties will watch these trends closely because every percentage point counts when the actual voting day arrives.
