A new poll conducted by Mwelekeo Insights has shown a very tight contest for the Kajiado County Women Representative seat ahead of the 2027 general election. Simiyai Rakita currently leads with 11.9 percent support, just ahead of Naisiae Karia who has 11.8 percent.

Right behind them is the incumbent Leah Sankaire of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) with 11.6 percent. The race is open and competitive, with several other aspirants also drawing meaningful backing from voters across the county.

Other Contenders in the Race

Ann Nashipae follows closely with 10.7 percent, while Teriano Saidimu sits at 9.8 percent.

Jeniffer Moinket, who contested on an Orange Democratic Movement ticket in the past, has 9.3 percent.

Further down the list are Janet Sereu at 6.8 percent, Dorothy Mashipei at 6.2 percent, Mercy Masai of the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) at 6 percent, and Susan Simayo at 5.8 percent.

Juliana Katimwa and Winnie Resuka round out the field with 5.3 percent and 4.8 percent respectively.

The spread of support shows that no single candidate has pulled far ahead, which keeps the competition lively and unpredictable.

What the Numbers Suggest

The results paint a picture of a divided electorate. The top three candidates are separated by less than half a percentage point, meaning small shifts in public mood could easily change the order. Many voters appear still to be weighing their options or waiting to see how campaigns develop in the coming months. In a county as diverse as Kajiado, with its mix of urban and pastoral communities, personal connections, local issues and party loyalty all play important roles in shaping preferences.

Why This Race Matters

The Women Representative seat carries weight because it focuses on issues that affect women, youth and families directly. Education support, healthcare access, economic empowerment for women and protection of vulnerable groups are expected to feature strongly in the campaigns. Incumbent Leah Sankaire has used her time in office to push bursaries, water projects and community programmes.

Challengers are presenting themselves as fresh voices ready to bring new energy and different priorities. The closeness of the poll suggests residents are paying attention and comparing the options carefully.
