A journey to a regional music festival turned into a frightening experience for dozens of students on Wednesday morning after the school bus they were travelling in overturned along the Eldama Ravine-Nakuru road.

The accident occurred at around 9 a.m. near the Kibasiso area as learners were heading to Mogotio to participate in regional music festivals. The bus, belonging to Pineview Academy Kiplogon, was reportedly carrying about 59 students from two different schools when the crash happened.

According to preliminary findings, the vehicle is suspected to have developed a mechanical problem after its brakes reportedly failed. The driver is said to have lost control of the bus before it veered off the road and overturned.

All 59 students sustained injuries of varying degrees, although early reports indicated that none of the injuries was fatal. Emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene and worked alongside members of the public to rescue the learners from the wreckage.

The injured students were taken to several health facilities in the area for treatment. These included Eldama Ravine Sub-County Referral Hospital, Mercy Hospital, Ravine Specialist Hospital, and Eldama Ravine Nursing Home. Medical personnel attended to the learners as parents, teachers, and school officials sought updates on their condition.

Images circulating on social media showed the bus extensively damaged after the crash. Rescue teams were seen working around the vehicle as efforts continued to ensure all passengers had been safely evacuated and accounted for.

Police officers from Eldama Ravine Police Station secured the scene and launched investigations into the accident. Authorities are expected to examine the vehicle and gather witness statements as they seek to establish the exact cause of the crash.

The incident comes only days after another school transport accident claimed the life of a driver and left several learners injured.

On June 13, 2026, a matatu carrying students from Ngondi Junior School reportedly lost its brakes before plunging into a valley along Maiella Road. The driver died at the scene, while 10 learners suffered injuries and were rushed to hospital for treatment.

The two accidents occurring within less than a week have renewed concerns about the safety of school transport vehicles.

Parents, education stakeholders, and road safety advocates are now calling for stricter vehicle inspections and stronger enforcement of transport regulations to help prevent similar incidents in the future.
