Evans Okoda, a known political activist and former bodyguard to ex-Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero, was found dead on May 3rd, 2024, in Oyugis Town. His body had clear signs of torture. His head had been badly injured, and even more disturbing, his right hand and tongue had been cut off.
This cruel and shocking killing sparked public anger across Homa Bay County and beyond. Residents of Oyugis Town, where the body was found, took to the streets in protest. Many held placards and chanted slogans demanding answers and justice for Okoda’s brutal murder. Some protesters loudly called out the name of Kasipul MP Charles Ong’ondo Were, pointing fingers at him and suggesting he might have been connected to the killing.
This unexpected accusation quickly grabbed the attention of the media and the public, raising tough questions about the MP’s ties to Okoda and what could have caused such a fallout if the claims were true.

As police began their investigations, one of the first suspects they arrested was Kennedy Ogalo Osano, the personal driver of MP Ong’ondo. His arrest came after police found evidence of several phone calls between him and Okoda near the time of the killing. While the exact details of their conversations were not made public, the timing and frequency of the calls were enough to raise serious suspicions.
Investigators now had to consider if the driver had played a role in luring Okoda to his death or whether he knew more than he was saying. The tension in the area remained high as people waited to see if more arrests would follow and whether justice would be served.
Then, in a shocking twist, just a few days after Okoda’s death, MP Ong’ondo was himself gunned down along Ngong Road in Nairobi. It happened on a Wednesday evening. Witnesses said two men on a motorbike approached Ong’ondo’s car, opened fire without saying a word, and then sped off before anyone could stop them. The killing appeared to be well-planned, and the assassins left no room for hesitation.
The news of Ong’ondo’s sudden death shocked both his supporters and critics. Some saw it as an act of revenge, while others believed it was a way to silence a man who might have known too much.
Police and DCI officers from Kilimani quickly arrived at the crime scene and sealed it off. Forensic experts began collecting evidence, trying to understand what had really happened and whether Ong’ondo’s murder was linked to Okoda’s death. The two killings, happening so close together, have left the public with more questions than answers. Many are now calling for a thorough investigation into the political links, phone records, and possible motives behind both deaths. The community wants justice, but above all, they want the truth to come out.
