The alliance of parties through which President William Ruto’s team won the August election won’t be there in 2027, UDA Chair Johnson Muthama has said.
Ruto was propelled to power by a number of political parties which came together to form the Kenya Kwanza Alliance, led by his UDA, the mother party.
But Muthama says that the plan is to see that all these outfits merge under the UDA one, suggesting that the others will have to merge into UDA.
He has, however, assured their heads that they won’t be forced to toe the line, but has said that it is their desire to see the many outfits dissolve into one.
“We do not want to coarsen anybody to dissolve his/her political party. But, we want to go to the elections of 2027 as one political party called UDA,” he said in an interview on TV47 on Monday.
Ruto’s Plan
Among the other main parties in Kenya Kwanza are ANC and Ford Kenya, whose heads Musalia Mudavadi are Kenya Kwanza co-principals.
He made the remarks while maintaining that the other parties are not in power perse, and should not be confused to be ruling for being in Kenya Kwanza.
For the former Machakos senator, UDA is the owner of the current government and the others are just its friends through Ruto.
“The government of the day is UDA in coalition with political parties who are our friends,” he said.
