The Kenya Kwanza Alliance captain William Ruto and his Running Mate Hon Rigathi Gachagua are still coming to terms with the setback of losing at least 60 Kenya Kwańza Alliance grassroots coordinators from the Mt. Kenya region who have switched their political leanings.

The alleged over 60 county coordinaters from Laikipia County have also affirmed their unshakable support for the ODM Party leader Hon Raila Odinga’s presidential bid in the coming 2022 elections.

According to the reports by the Nation Media Group, the decision by the 60 Kenya Kwańza Alliance officials to terminate their political bond with Ruto and Gachagua was arrived at after the duo allegedly continued to show disrespect to some of the top Kenya Kwanza leaders.  Among the leaders being disrespected, we had Mwangi Kiunjuri and Cate Waruguru among several others. Their exit was also as a result of the push to embrace the 6-piece voting style in the coming elections.

Azimio running mate Martha Karua received about 60 county coordinators who had defected from UDA. They were handed over by Mr. Muriithi at a political rally in Nanyuki. Mr. Muriithi told the Nation yesterday that Mr. Odinga’s candidacy was gaining momentum and exuded confidence that he would get more votes than Dr. Ruto from the region,” Thursday Nation Media group report stated.

Unconfirmed reports from other sources have also indicated that another Mt. Kenya leader, Mwangi Kiunjuri, might end up following the footsteps of Governor Kabogo who recently left after DP Ruto failed to listen to their grievances. These are dangerous political moves that are likely to deny DP Ruto the targeted 50+1 votes in the coming elections in order to become a president.

Meanwhile, the ground remains tough and not guaranteed to anyone since things might just change all of a sudden. It is upon Kenyans to keep calm and observe the new changes in the political battlefield the closer we near the August elections.
