Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has called for the removal of National Intelligence Service (NIS) boss Noordin Haji, accusing him of misadvising President William Ruto and the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) government.

The Deputy President’s remarks come just hours after Kenya witnessed unprecedented demonstrations against the Finance Bill 2024, resulting in tens of deaths and hundreds of injuries.

Speaking during a media presser in Mombasa this evening, DP Gachagua did not mince words. He expressed his deep sorrow and anger over the tragic events, attributing the violence to poor intelligence and flawed advisement from Haji.

“Incompetence at the highest level,” he declared, insisting that Haji’s removal is necessary for the government to regain public trust and ensure such tragedies do not recur.

DP Gachagua’s emotional appeal struck a personal chord as he drew parallels with his own family. “My children are of the same Gen Z. No parent should have to bury their child, especially in such circumstances. I cry for our children; I am unable to bear the pain of innocent young children whose only crime was to air their views in a democratic country,” he lamented.

His heartfelt words resonated with many, highlighting the human cost of political decisions and governmental failures.

The demonstrations against the Finance Bill 2024 have shaken the nation, sparking widespread outrage and calls for accountability. The Deputy President’s pointed critique of the NIS and its leadership adds a new dimension to the growing discontent, potentially signaling a shake-up within the security and intelligence apparatus.

As the dust settles from the day’s chaos, the nation watches closely, anticipating the government’s next steps in response to this crisis. The Deputy President’s bold stance may serve as a catalyst for change, aiming to prevent future tragedies and restore faith in Kenya’s democratic institutions.
