Tranzoia County Governor George Natembeya narrowly escaped an attack during a campaign event in Bungoma County. The incident left one of his vehicles damaged as youths stormed the rally with crude weapons, targeting the governor directly.

The rally was held in support of independent candidate Eric Wekesa, who is contesting the Chwele-Kabuchai Ward seat in a by-election scheduled for November 27, 2025.

Natembeya had just begun addressing the residents when chaos erupted at the venue.

According to eyewitnesses, a group of youths rushed the stage brandishing crude weapons. Security personnel acted quickly, escorting Natembeya into one of his vehicles and driving him to safety before the situation escalated further.

Unfortunately, the last vehicle remaining at the rally was attacked. Stones smashed its windscreen and caused visible damage, highlighting the intensity and aggression of the confrontation during the political gathering.

Natembeya condemned the attack, describing it as an outdated form of political expression incompatible with modern democratic practices.

He emphasized that such actions undermine the political process and the safety of elected leaders and supporters alike.

Despite the incident, the governor reaffirmed his commitment to continue campaigning for the people of Western Kenya.

He stressed the importance of liberating the region from leaders he believes have historically exploited its resources and communities.

The attack has sparked widespread concern over political violence in the region. Observers and residents called for increased security measures to protect candidates, supporters, and the public during election-related activities.

Natembeya’s team released photos and video footage of the damaged vehicle, showing the aftermath of the attack.

The visuals have circulated widely on social media, drawing both sympathy and criticism from political observers and citizens.
