Influential figure George T Diano has raised concerns about potential double-charging at Naivas Supermarket, urging Kenyans to be vigilant when shopping.

In a X post on November 2, he alleged that customers could unknowingly be charged twice for items at the cashier desk if they don’t carefully check their receipts.

According to Diano, Naivas Supermarket does not offer a refund if customers notice a double charge. Instead, he claimed that customers are asked to pick another item of the same value, an approach he criticized.

He advised Kenyans to double-check their receipts after each purchase or even carry a calculator to verify totals as they’re being calculated at the checkout.

“ATTENTION KENYANS!! Be very careful when shopping at Naivas Supermarket. An item can be charged twice at the cashier desk if one is not careful. And when the customer notices & starts to complain, they don’t refund the money, they ask you to pick something else of the same value.

“If you’re shopping at any Naivas outlet, carefully go through the receipt or better still walk with your calculator, Wakihesabu una hesabu!!” he wrote.

The post has sparked a wave of reactions from Kenyans online, with several people sharing similar experiences of alleged double-charging at Naivas.

Many have expressed frustration and called on the supermarket chain to address these claims and provide fair solutions to affected customers.

A few months ago, Diano made similar accusations against Quickmart Supermarket, alleging the same issue of double-charging. His recent comments have reignited public calls for greater transparency and accountability from major retailers.
