Former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i has hosted former President William Ruto’s ally and evangelical leader Bishop Margaret Wanjiru in a meeting that is likely to fuel fresh political speculation as opposition figures continue to build alliances ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Matiang’i shared details of the meeting on Thursday, September 3, 2026, saying Wanjiru had visited him for prayers, encouragement and counsel.
“Pleased to receive Bishop Margaret Wanjiru, who paid me a visit today,” Matiang’i said.
“I am deeply grateful for her prayers, words of encouragement and wise counsel. I value the wisdom and guidance of our faith leaders as we continue working towards a better future for our country.”
He also thanked the bishop for what he described as a moment of fellowship.
“Asante sana, Bishop, for the visit and fellowship.”
Meeting comes amid shifting political landscape
Although Matiang’i framed the meeting as a courtesy visit by a religious leader, its political timing has attracted attention as opposition figures continue to court influential leaders and constituencies ahead of the next election cycle.
The Jubilee Deputy Party leader and 2027 presidential flag bearer has increasingly featured in opposition activities in recent months, including appearances alongside leaders pushing for political reforms and government accountability.
Wanjiru’s visit adds another notable political interaction as conversations around coalition-building continue to intensify.

She previously served as Starehe Member of Parliament and has, at different times, aligned herself with President William Ruto’s political camp.
In recent years, she has been associated with Kenya Kwanza politics, making her appearance alongside Matiang’i noteworthy given the shifting alliances unfolding ahead of 2027.
Neither Wanjiru nor Matiang’i announced any political agreement or alliance following the meeting.
