Outspoken Kakamega senator Cleophas Malala has hinted at becoming the Luhya kingpin if elected county governor in August contest.
Speaking while rallying electorates to endorse his gubernatorial bid in Kakamega, Malala noted that every community is on the race to groom and nurture youthful legislators that are expected to chart the welfares of the region in the near future.
“Every community is nurturing and grooming its young turk that will lead the region in presenting community challeges to the national government. When you go to Ukambani, they are hyping Mutula Kilonzo junior, Rift valley have Kipchumba Murkomen, Mt Kenya have the likes of Ndindi Nyoro, Nyanza are backing Kajwang and I believe I also need to take charge of Luhya community” he said.
“You must hold my hand, nurture me, bring me up as your own son and never leave me alone. When I make mistakes, kindly call me aside as elders of this community and correct me.” he added.
Malala vouched the crowd to vote for him as a sign of fronting his kingpin bid to the Luhya community.
“When you vote for me, you will be making me a youthful leader who will take care of our community. I will be vying for presidency in 2042 and we shall have the hugest chunk as a community when I take over as kingpin after securing gubernatorial position” Malala asserted.
He is battling against Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) candidate Fernandez Barasa, United Democratic Party (UDP) candidate Cyrus Jirongo for Kakamega apex position.
Malala received a significant boost after former Kakamega senator Boni Khalwale bolted out of Kakamega gubernatorial race to endorse him (Malala) and shifted to vie for senator’s position following intense consensus negotiations among the Kenya Kwanza candidates.
Senator Malala has been a resourceful legislator to Amani National Congress (ANC) and Kenya Kwanza Alliance especially in Mulembe nation in popularizing DP Ruto’s presidential bid.
