Kenyans have taken to Twitter to voice their opinions on which national leaders should face impeachment proceedings. This public outcry comes in the wake of the recent impeachment of Kisii County Deputy Governor Robert Monda, an event that has seemingly opened the floodgates for further political accountability.

Lawyer Ndegwa Njiru, known for his role in the legal team that led to Monda’s ouster, posed a question to the public: “The heroic Senate has impeached the Kisii County DG, who else from the NATIONAL government should be lined up for IMPEACHMENT before the distinguished SENATE?” The response was overwhelming, with Kenyans listing several high-profile leaders, including Deputy President Gachagua, Nairobi Governor Sakaja, and Kiambu County Governor Wamatangi.

The mention of these leaders is not without context. Deputy President Gachagua has been previously involved in efforts to prevent the impeachment of Governor Wamatangi. Nairobi Governor Sakaja has faced his own challenges, with reports of looming impeachment motions over salary arrears and bursary allocation issues. Meanwhile, Governor Wamatangi has been accused of high-handedness and slow service delivery, with impeachment threats looming if certain conditions are not met.

The Kisii County Deputy Governor’s impeachment has set a significant precedent. Senators voted to uphold the removal from office of Robert Monda by impeachment, with the majority citing gross violation of the Constitution, abuse of office, gross misconduct, and crimes under national law as reasons for their decision.

As the dust settles on Monda’s impeachment, the nation watches with bated breath to see if the calls for further political reckoning will materialize into actual motions or if they will remain the voices of the people on social media. What is clear, however, is that the appetite for political integrity and accountability is at an all-time high among the Kenyan populace. Lawyer Ndegwa Njiru’s tweet has not only stirred a conversation but has also highlighted the power of public opinion in shaping the political narrative.
