“Kwani Alipeleka Pesa Wapi?” Kenyans React After Ex-Sultana Actor Winnie Bwire Pleads for Financial Help

To some Kenyans, celebrities shouldn’t feel entitled to financial aid whenever they're in need. However, others believe it's time to give Winnie Bwire her flowers.

Kenyans have taken to social media with mixed reactions after former Sultana actress Winnie Bwire, known to many as Dida, appealed for financial assistance to raise Ksh5 million for her metastatic breast cancer treatment. Many are questioning where her acting went, while others express empathy and support for her ongoing battle.

In a video shared by news anchor Lulu Hassan, Bwire, who has been fighting cancer for three years, voiced her frustration over the soaring costs of healthcare.

She emphasized that despite making progress, financial challenges continue to pull her back. “I’m so frustrated at how expensive healthcare is. Every time I have made 10 steps forward, I feel like I’m being dragged back,” she shared emotionally.

Bwire revealed that the Ksh5 million she urgently needs will cover her treatment abroad, including travel, accommodation, and other related expenses.

This isn’t her first time asking the public for help owing to the fact that she had previously requested donations in December 2023 to raise Ksh7 million for similar treatment.

The actress candidly spoke about how the disease has taken a toll on her emotionally and physically, noting that while she’s not ready to give up, the burden has become too much to bear alone.

“I have not made any posters. I just wanted to do an appeal… I’m just done carrying this alone. I need your help, guys,” she pleaded.

Kenyans have been quick to respond, with many questioning the transparency of her previous fundraising efforts.

Despite this, a significant number of people have expressed their willingness to assist. Will Kenyans rally behind her once more, or will skepticism overshadow her plea for help?
