Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has confirmed that he had a heated meeting with President William Ruto at State House, but strongly denied media reports claiming he demanded KSh 8 billion as an exit package.

Addressing the allegations, Gachagua said the meeting was not about money but rather focused on urging Ruto to take into account the concerns of Kenyans regarding the Finance Bill 2024.

“Mimi sina haja na benefits zozote. Leo niliona gazeti ikiandika mambo ya upuzi ati niligonga meza ya Rais nikidai shilingi milioni nane. Mimi sina haja na pesa,” Gachagua said during a public address.

He dismissed the claims, describing them as false and sensationalized.

The Deputy President added that his main concern is ensuring that the government listens to the public’s views on important policy issues like the Finance Bill.

Gachagua further explained that if his goal was to gain financially, he could have done so during the previous administration, which, according to him, made several attempts to lure him away from Ruto.

“Kama ningetaka pesa, ningepata kwa serikali iliyopita kwa sababu nilikuwa nawindwa kila siku na kutafutwa niwachane na President William Ruto,” he explained.

He also emphasized that he has no personal financial needs, as his family is self-sufficient.

“Sina tamaa na pesa, sina mahitaji mengi, watoto wangu ni wakubwa, bibi yangu ni pastor, mimi nimemaliza kuzaa na kulea,” Gachagua remarked, adding that his wife, who is a pastor, and their children are well-established.

The Deputy President concluded by reaffirming his commitment to putting the needs of ordinary citizens first, saying his focus is on improving the lives of Kenyans rather than seeking personal benefits.

“Mimi ni mtu ambaye naweka mbele mambo ya wananchi,” he stated, dismissing the rumors surrounding his alleged demands for an exit perk.
