Nairobi Governor Hon. Johnson Sakaja has found  himself embroiled in controversy as questions multiply over his leadership and accountability.

This follows accusations from political leaders, including Homabay Senator Hon. Moses Kajwang and Nairobi Senator Hon. Edwin Sifuna that have cast a shadow over Sakaja’s tenure.

The spotlight fell squarely on Governor Sakaja when he failed to appear before the Public Accounts Committee of the Senate this morning. The purpose of the hearing was to discuss the Auditor General Reports for the 2020-2021 and 2021-2022 Financial Years.

Shockingly, both reports were ADVERSE, revealing significant financial irregularities within Nairobi County. The situation worsened as the 2022-2023 report also echoed similar concerns.

Senator Sifuna took to Twitter, expressing his frustration: “Guess who is out of the country?” His pointed remark highlighted Sakaja’s absence during this critical moment. The Governor’s decision to dodge the Senate hearing has raised eyebrows and fueled speculation about his commitment to transparency and governance.

Senator Kajwang minced no words, stating, “Governor Sakaja refuses accountability.” The allegations stem from the Kshs 76 billion spending in the financial years 2020/21 and 2021/22. The Senate County Public Accounts Committee sought answers, but Sakaja’s absence left them empty-handed.

The missing billions have intensified suspicions of looting within Nairobi County. Residents demand clarity on how public funds were utilized and whether any malfeasance occurred. With the Auditor General’s reports flagging serious concerns, the pressure on Sakaja to provide explanations has reached a boiling point.

Sakaja’s leadership style now faces scrutiny. His evasion of the Senate hearing has ignited public outrage, and citizens are demanding swift action. As the investigation unfolds, the Governor must address the allegations head-on or risk further erosion of public trust.

The question remains: Will Governor Sakaja emerge from this crisis unscathed, or will the mounting guilt consume his political career? Only time will tell as Nairobi awaits answers and accountability. 🕊️
