Deputy President William Ruto has torn into Azimio – One Kenya academic credentials alleging that he forged his degree certificate to seek clearance by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) for the August contest.

Speaking on Thursday during the Kenya Kwanza rally in Manga, West Mugirango, Nyamira County, Ruto poked holes into Raila’s degree certificate daring him to disclose his University lecturer, classmates, and what he studied.

“If there is someone whose academic credentials should be subjected to thorough scrutiny is Azimio presidential candidate. He should tell us what he studied, where he studied, who was his lecturer and classmates” Ruto said.

He also defended United Democratic Alliance (UDA) candidate for Nairobi Contest Johnson Sakaja over the ongoing debate on his academic credentials.

He stated that Sakaja had a valid and genuine degree from Team University in Uganda where he studied Bachelor of Science in Management and graduated in 2016. Ruto blamed Uhuru’s Jubilee party for allegedly witch-hunting Sakaja with the intention of blocking his candidature ahead of the next election.

“I want to tell our competitors and my former Jubilee party, that they should leave Johnson Sakaja alone. Sakaja has credible and valid papers that have been verified by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC). Let us meet on the ballot and we shall floor your candidate with a bigger margin” added Ruto.

On Tuesday, UDA secretary-general had also questioned Raila’s academic credentials alleging that he forged his University degree since there have never been clear and traceable routes on Raila’s academic background.

“Questions have been cast on the credentials of presidential candidates. You have seen a lot of headlines questioning the university that our biggest opponent Raila Odinga qualified from, and it becomes a big question that needs to be looked at not through lenses of just one candidate, but a wider public question” Veronica Maina said.
