City tycoon and 2022 Nairobi governor aspirant Agnes Kagure has taken a swipe at the current Nairobi governor Hon Johnson Sakaja over his failure to deliver on his 2022 promises. Kagure, said that Sakanja has let down the people of Nairobi by not fulfilling his pledges on service delivery, infrastructure, health, education, and security.
In a Facebook post, Kagure said that a true leader is an enabler who pushes those around them to grow and thrive, supports ideas, empowers innovation, and is passionate about projects that can improve lives. She said that a true leader is a problem solver who can steer the county to prosperity. She said that she has the vision and the experience to be such a leader for Nairobi.
“Better days are ahead. We’ll soon be on such a path. Elective units with leaders occupying leadership positions are on a sure path to prosperity. A true leader is a problem solver. A true leader is an enabler who pushes those around them to grow and thrive, supports ideas, empowers innovation, and is passionate about projects that can improve lives,” she wrote.
Kagure’s post comes amid heightened pressure directed at Sakaja over his performance as the governor of Nairobi. Sakanja, who is seeking re-election under the Kenya Kwanza banner, has been accused of mismanagement, corruption, and incompetence by his critics. He has also faced wrangles with the Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS), the body that was created to take over some of the county functions after a transfer agreement with the national government.
Sakanja has defended his record, saying that he has initiated and completed several development projects in the county, such as roads, markets, hospitals, and schools. He has also claimed that he has been sabotaged by his political rivals and the NMS, who are working to undermine his authority and popularity.
The race for the Nairobi governor seat is expected to be hotly contested, with several candidates vying for the position. Apart from Kagure and Sakaja, other hopefuls include former governor Mike Sonko, former MP Margaret Wanjiru, former senator Johnson Sakaja, and activist Boniface Mwangi.
