President William Ruto has also complained about the media, accusing it of being rogue at times and going even for him and his office.
Ruto has said that he has not been spared either, and just like the others who are complaining, he has been enduring mistreatment from journalists
He has said that therefore, while he will do his bit in protecting the media from his government officials, he too needs someone to protect him when the same media goes after him.
The Commander in Chief made the remarks while agreeing with Trade Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria that the media has become partisan in its reporting.
“I saw one journalist saying that the President should defend us from Moses Kuria, that’s fine; I will do my bit, but I want to ask them who is going to defend me from rogue media because I go through hell all the time,” he said on Wednesday.
He made the remarks after flagging off this year’s Safari Rally in Naivasha, Nakuru County.
Ruto said that his government is willing to protect the media and the right to criticize. But he also accused the fourth estate of at times being used to spread propaganda against the government.
“We must defend the media, we must defend their right to criticize, to say whatever it is that they want to say even if it is propaganda,” he said.
His remarks came only days after Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua agreed with Kuria that the media has been partisan, but dismissed his claims that some will be denied state advertisement tenders.
The Kenya Kwanza side has been fighting with the media since before last year’s election, where it accused some media houses of being more to the side of the rival Azimio La Umoja side.
