Trouble has erupted in the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party, only days after the party proved it’s political might in the concluded general election.

The Deputy President William Ruto-led party managed to win a good number of seats, including the presidency, and continues to attract more allies, including from the rival Azimio La Umoja camp.

But trouble has now erupted within the outfit, with some of the pioneer members expressing fear regarding the ongoing entry of new allies.

They are afraid that these new entrants might be after the lucrative positions on offer now that UDA is a big party, and could be eyeing some of the positions Ruto will be dishing out if sworn in.

One of them told the Daily Nation that while they are okay with new members coming in, they won’t let them rip where they never sowed and will scuttle any attempts to benefit where they never contributed.

He told the paper that the most these people can get is development in their areas and not seats, adding that the defectors are simply trying to harvest now that they (pioneers) have brought the win home.

“They are coming at a time when the victory is home. Apart from development being rolled out in their areas, they will get a share of government posts based on their numbers. That does not mean they will take positions of individuals who have worked hard for the win,” the source, a senior member of Ruto’s campaign secretariat told the paper.

Among those who have joined Ruto is former Makueni governor Kivutha Kibwana, who, before the elections, was working with Azimio presidential candidate Raila Odinga, Raila’s main opponent.

But Registrar of Political Parties Anne Nderitu maintains that all those crossing over to Kenya Kwanza from Azimio remain legally in Azimio.

“A party cannot belong to more than one coalition and they have to deal with the first matter [withdrawing from the first agreement],” she told the paper.
