Deputy President William Ruto has finally received court order allowing United Democratic Alliance (UDA) to hold its last campaign rally at Nyayo National Stadium.
Ruto through party lawyers had sued Sports Kenya, an institution mandated to manage most stadiums in Kenya, for disallowing Kenya Kwanza Alliance to hold its final rally on Saturday, 6th August, 2022 at Nyayo National Stadium even after paying for the venue earlier before receiving cancellation later.
UDA had argued that they paid for the venue in advance to Sports Kenya and processed the receipt, indicating that they had secured the venue on Saturday for last hustler nation rally in Nairobi.
However, Sports Kenya through a letter addressed to UDA secretary general Veronica Maina, Sports Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed and PS for sports indicated that the venue had been preserved for peace concert on the same date UDA is supposed to hold its final rally and therefore, the venue had been awarded to Peace Concert event.
Ruto among other Kenya Kwanza allied partners protested and moved to court to challenge Sports Kenya’s decision to revoked their receipt despite having booked for the venue earlier.
“We regret to inform you that due to peace concerts scheduled to take place at both Moi International Sport Center- Kasarani and Nyayo National Stadium between August 5 to 7, 2022. The facility will not be available for their use,” the letter read in part.
Deputy President William Ruto’s main challenger, Raila Odinga on the other hand is expected to host the last Azimio – One Kenya rally at Moi International Sports Centre, Kasarani on Saturday.
The two presidential horses are racing against time to beat all the odds in wooing the voters ahead of Tuesday battle.
Raila is expected to tour Kisumu International stadium today, Thursday while DP Ruto’s led Kenya Kwanza Alliance has toured Coastal region where they are set to hold a mega rally at Tononoka ground..
