The Roots Party presidential candidate George Luchiri Wajackoyah has stormed out of Catholic University of Eastern Africa (CUEA) minutes after arriving for presidential debate tier with Agano Party’s David Waihiga Mwaure.

The debate was expected to kick off today, Tuesday, 26th July, 2022 exactly 5:30pm. Wajackoyah insisted to share a podium with the other three candidates and defied to debate with Mwaure in the first debate shift.

He said that he had come to confirm whether the other three candidates, David Waihiga Mwaure of Agano party, Raila Odinga of Azimio – One Kenya coalition and Kenya Kwanza Alliance candidate William Ruto were all present for a joint debate.

“I had addressed the organisers of this presidential debate through a letter on 21st July, 2022 asking them to forge for a joint debate all of us instead of dividing the debate into two. They never responded to my letter and that is why I just came to confirm if the other three candidates were available so that we commence the debate. I cannot debate with Waihiga Mwaure alone” Wajackoyah addressed the media as he left.

“Roots Party would like to state that our presidential candidate Prof. Wajackoyah will not attend the presidential debate because we will not subject the incoming President to the joke of an already predetermined debate,” read the statement.

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party boss Raila Odinga had also affirmed that he will not face off Ruto for the debate, accusing the second in command for being too corrupt and deficit of integrity.

Raila opted to run a parallel programme at Jericho Social Hall in Eastlands alongside his running mate Martha Karua instead
