Popular American singer R. Kelly has been sentenced to 30 years in prison. The singer, 55 was accused of using his fame and status as a renowned celebrity to sexually abuse women and underage girls. The singer, whose real name is Robert Sylvester Kelly was convicted last year for two major crimes, sex trafficking, and racketeering.
Prior to his conviction, the R. Kelly had faced serious allegations of similar crimes. The judge leading the case on Wednesday made it clear that the singer had caused human suffering, hence he deserved to be jailed.
Kelly’s lawyers made it clear that no appeal would be made. Before he was sentenced, a long list of women raised the bar high to confront R. Kelly for his past crimes. A woman who was known by her first name, Angela described Kelly as a man who grew up in wickedness, arguing that he deserved to rot in jail.
A bunch of women discussed how R. Kelly had downgraded their spirits. One woman claimed that she wished Robert Kelly died because of how he made her feel. While dressed in full prison gear, Kelly declined to make a statement of his own.
The judge leading the conviction stated that Kelly was using sex as weapon where he seduced and slept with women. The accusers had blamed the singer for saddling them with incurable illnesses. The judge stated that Kelly had continously proved to women that love was some type of enslavement and violence.
The court backed up the accusers, adding that Kelly abused women and kids for over two decades. The court had also received information that Kelly had illegally obtained paperwork and illegally got married to singer Aaliyah who was 15 in 1994. Her death came 7 years after her marriage with singer. It was claimed that Kelly branded Aaliyah as an 18-year-old yet she was 15.
