Three people are in police custody following an operation by detectives in Migori County that led to the recovery of two firearms and several other items believed to be linked to criminal activities.

The operation was carried out in Nyangoto area within Kuria West Sub-County after detectives received information from members of the public. Investigators from Migori, working together with officers from Kuria West, acted on the intelligence and raided a suspected hideout where the arrests were made.

During the operation, detectives recovered two pistols and five rounds of 9mm ammunition. The discovery of the firearms was considered a significant breakthrough in efforts to improve security in the area and prevent possible criminal activities.

Apart from the weapons, officers also seized a Subaru Impreza vehicle and three motorcycles.

Several tools and equipment were also found at the scene, including three welding machines, two grinding machines, a water pump and power cables. Investigators further recovered eight mobile phones of different types.

Police identified the suspects as Charles Mwita, Joshua Obachi and Ignitius Likhanga. The three are currently being held by authorities as investigations continue. Detectives are processing the suspects before they are presented in court to face possible charges.

The recovered firearms, ammunition, vehicle, motorcycles and other items have been retained by investigators as exhibits. Authorities are expected to examine the items further as part of ongoing investigations aimed at establishing their ownership and determining whether they were connected to any criminal activities reported in the region.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) praised members of the public for cooperating with law enforcement agencies by sharing information that helped officers carry out the operation successfully. The agency noted that public support remains important in the fight against crime and in helping security officers respond quickly to threats.
