Blogger Cyprian Nyakundi a few hours ago took to Twitter to expose a scandal engulfing the office of Government Spokesman Isaac Maigua Mwaura. The allegations involve serious corruption, misconduct, and abuse of power, centered around Mwaura’s Personal Assistant and Chief of Staff, Samwel Maina.

Maina is accused of bullying, corruption, and embezzlement through the manipulation of travel imprest funds for personal gain. Reports indicate that he pockets up to Ksh 14,000 per day, a sum unjustified by his job group.
Alongside him, an office administrator is also implicated in the scandal, with both accused of falsifying travel claims for trips that were never taken.
Further allegations suggest that Maina has been inflating job groups for staff close to him, including himself, to defraud the government. There are also claims of questionable payments to journalists, potentially to manipulate media coverage in favor of the office.

Adding another layer to the controversy is a female student from NIBS College, ostensibly on attachment, who has been frequently seen with Mwaura. Sources report that this young woman spends considerable time in Mwaura’s official government vehicle, often watching and recording TikTok videos during his numerous trips. This unusual attachment has raised questions about the nature of her relationship with the Government Spokesman.
In a recent incident, Mwaura allegedly dismissed one of his drivers under dubious circumstances following a late-night altercation involving another woman, Sapiyaya. The driver was reportedly forced to exit the vehicle and find his own way home, while Mwaura arranged an Uber ride for Sapiyaya and paid for her return journey.
The scandal has cast a shadow over the Government Spokesman’s office, calling into question the integrity and ethical standards of its operations. The public is demanding a thorough investigation to protect public funds and address any misconduct within the office.
