President William Ruto has expressed shock at the rampant resource misappropriation in some government agencies, stating that this has been slowing down the country’s economic growth.
Starting from this year’s budget, Dr. Ruto said they will be keen on how funds are allocated to various government agencies as one way of ensuring prudent use.
Speaking on Monday, March 18, 2024, in Lolgorian, Narok County, during the funeral of Mama Annah Tunai, the mother of the first Governor of Narok, Samuel Tunai, the President urged MPs to support him in efforts aimed at sealing any loopholes for misuse of public funds.
“I urge MPs to cooperate so that where we don’t need money, we don’t allocate. Institutions that can sustain themselves should not be given extra resources. Let’s ensure every shilling is used appropriately,” President Ruto said.

He commended some county governments for their judicious use of resources and promised to continue working closely with them.
The President urged Kenyans to embrace the new Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF), saying it will greatly ensure that no one is denied quality health services.
“We want even those who can’t afford health insurance to benefit. In the new laws we’ve enacted, such a person will access quality health services through the tax that the employed pay,” he said.
The President took the opportunity to assure Transmara residents that his administration will improve the state of roads in the area to ease transportation.
He endorsed the affordable housing construction project, saying it will provide hundreds of unemployed youths with a means of livelihood.
