There indeed are attempts to revive the outlawed Mungiki sect, Kiama Kia Ma patron Rtd Captain Kung’u Muigai has admitted.
His admission comes days after Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua said the same thing, terming Uhuru the mastermind behind the revival attempts.
“What do you want in this country? You occupied the highest position in this country, what else do you want? You are the richest man in this country, you literally own this country – including us – what else do you want? Why are you sending poor people’s kids to fight the police and kill each other? How much contempt can you have?” Gachagua had claimed in Nakuru.
Kung’u now says that they are afraid Mungiki, if revived, will soon begin being associated with the Kiama Kia Ma, ruining their reputation.
He has also said that the initial members of the sect never involved themselves with crime, and is asking the government to fight it.This comes at a time when former Mungiki leader Maina Njenga seems to be regaining popularity, after beginning to associate with the opposition.
His supporters recently clashed with the police in Nakuru, where he was arraigned for among others, hosting a Mungiki meeting in his house.
He was accompanied by Azimio La Umoja leaders like Martha Karua, Jeremiah Kioni and George Wajackoyah.
