Kenya Kwanza Alliance principals have claimed that the head of state president Uhuru Kenyatta and his counterpart Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) partner Raila Odinga illegally auctioned Mombasa, Lamu and Kisumu Ports to Dubai Port World FZE.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, 29th June 2022, Amani National Congress (ANC) party leader Musalia Mudavadi claimed that the deal to hand over the three ports was signed by National Treasurer Ukur Yatani on 1st May 2022, during a disguised meeting for Raila’s birthday event in Mombasa.
“In a secret deal under the guise of an Economic Cooperation Agreement with the United Arab Emirates, and which epitomizes grand corruption; Uhuru has assented to a rip-off that will see a foreign privately registered entity – Dubai Port World FZE – take over these key national infrastructural assets,” Mudavadi read the statement.
“This deal was mooted in a meeting in Mombasa disguised as Raila’s birthday party attended by outgoing President Uhuru Kenyatta, Raila Odinga, and the Governor of Mombasa Ali Hassan Joho among other state capture agents who are the principal beneficiaries of the deal” added the statement.
In the statement, Kenya Kwanza argued that the top deal will lead to Dubai Port World FZE firm overseeing and monitoring the redevelopment of berths 11 to 14 and various special economic zones at the Mombasa port.
Dubai Port World FZE will also oversee the equipping and operating of the container terminal at the port of Lamu development of a special economic zone at the port of Lamu.
According to Kenya Kwanza, the decision by Azimio – One Kenya partners infringes the article 227 of the Kenyan Constitution of 2010. Mudavadi noted that the duo lacks the constitutional mandate to auction the aforementioned ports of Lamu, Mombasa, and Kisumu without the exhaustive participation of the general public.
Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula assured to unravel more sticking deals in the handshake government over the three ports.
