A section of MPs allied to both the Kenya Kwanza side and the rival Azimio La Umoja camp have began working together with a common goal, it’s emerging.
This is despite the fact that the two sides are led by different people, and are political enemies, forming the ruling and opposition camps in that order.
But it’s emerging that some MPs from both sides, those hailing from the Western Kenya region, have come together with a similar intention.
The plan, The Star was told, is to see to it that former Shinyalu MP Justus Kizito lands a seat in the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA).
The paper was told that the MPs, unhappy that the region has gotten nothing in the minority house leadership set-up, and have decided to team up to ensure he gets the ODM ticket.
This was partially confirmed by ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna, who said that he has been invited to a meeting at the Maanzoni Lodge in Machakos on Sunday, to mobilize support for Kizito.
“I have been invited. We will want to lobby for candidates from our region,” the Nairobi senator, also from Western, told the paper on phone.
It has also emerged that the ruling Kenya Kwanza side has not decided on who to pick, as was confirmed by Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa.
“What I know as Kenya Kwanza we will have a PG on Tuesday for all of us to agree on which names to support,” he told the paper.
The Western Kenya MPs plan and decision to come together could lower the chances of some of those considered favourites on the ODM side, like party leader Raila Odinga’s daughter Winnie.
