Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu shocked Kenyans after he dished a TSC application letter to a job seeker in Kisii at a funeral.
This move has attracted criticism from netizens given the competitive nature of employment opportunities in the education sector. Such occurrences were unheard of during the reigns of past Education cabinet secretaries.
During the tenure of professionals like the late CS George Magoha or CS Fred Matiangi, every trained unemployed teacher would not be handed a job on a silver platter in the manner that Machogu did.
The former local administrator has turned his ministry into a den of tokenism with his tribesmen reaping big from the ministry.
His speech during a funeral in Nyamira was briefly interrupted when the said man, briskly walked up the podium and knelt down with hands up before the CS.
Machogu was addressing mourners during the funeral of Nyamaiya MCA Elijah Osiemo.
The man pleaded for a TSC job after Machogu offered a chance to one of the bereaved family members and announced that there were other positions for the locals.
The man braved all the security guards and rushed straight to kneel while raising his hand as a sign of surrender. Watch the video here.
In turn, Machogu did not hesitate to hand him a TSC letter amid cheers and shouts of joy from the mourners.
“Hasn’t the young man fought for himself? Isn’t that a good fight?” Machogu asked the crown as he congratulated the middle-aged man.
This nepotic move by CS Machogu adds to his load of controversial actions while at the helm of the Education ministry. Machogu has been under scrutiny after schools in the Kisii region, where he hails from, registered questionable results in the 2022 KCSE examinations.
