She added that in the past, celebrities have been reluctant to support local products even for a fee, but they were willing to attend the launch of Fenty products, which is a brand owned by American singer, Rihanna.

Taking to her Instagram page on Saturday, Huddah wrote,

“Us Africans have a long way to go man. We won’t support local businesses for a fee but we will embrace anything foreign for free. Kenyan influencers influence sh*t for free or for peanuts to look busy and booked. I’ve seen it all when they send me their rate cards. I’m like wait let me see how many things they selling When they post. I ask the people. How much did you pay? Ati nothing I sent free products or $80 to $200 max they get for a reel.”

Many celebrities in Kenya have been dedicated to supporting Rihanna’s Fenty products, but for the longest time, they have failed to promote local brands that have been in existence for a very long time.

Although debatable, Huddah raises a valid concern as to why Kenyans find it fashionable to support foreign products artists and the products they are promoting, but wouldn’t do the same for local products. Is it a way of fitting into the popular culture of association with the powerful or simply a social aping disease?
