Kisumu Town East Member of Parliament(MP) Shakeel Shabbir has exposed his eight colleagues with whom they met President William Ruto earlier in the month.
He is among the nine lawmakers from the region who met Ruto in State House, with all the others belonging to the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).
He has exposed them, admitting that Ruto has grouped them as a caucus planning to trouble ODM leader Raila Odinga in the Luo Nyanza region.
Shabbir has gone as far as mentioning the person Ruto has made the Chairman of the said caucus. He has, however, distanced himself from the group.
He has told the Daily Nation that he is not a member of the caucus, adding that he told Ruto very early that he is not interested in his dealings with the others.
“I am not in the caucus but I know (Bondo MP Gideon) Ochanda is the chairman. I was told that he is the chairman of the caucus but I even told the President at the time that I had come to meet him as an Independent and not as a member of any caucus,” he is quoted.
The remaining MPs include very unlikely figures, like Bondo MP Gideon Ochanda, the man representing Raila’s home constituency iThe others include Suba South MP Caroli Omondi, Lang’ata parliamentarian Felix Odiwuor alias Jalang’o and Elisha Odhiambo of Gem constituency.
The development comes at a time when Raila has declared war on the eight, excluding Shabbir, branding them traitors who deserve punishment.
They have not been attending Azimio La Umoja functions, with Jalang’o’s attempts to attend the retreat in Maanzoni being foiled after he was unceremoniously kicked out of the meeting hall.
Most have maintained that they are not planning anything with Ruto and remain members of ODM.n Siaya County.
