President William Ruto had a candid exchange with a resident during his speech in Migori County on Wednesday, as part of his ongoing development tour across the Nyanza region.
While addressing a crowd, a man interrupted the President, prompting Ruto to respond lightheartedly but firmly. “Nipeleke polepole! Wachakunikimbiza wewe,” he said, meaning, “Take it slow! Don’t rush me.”
The President assured the crowd that he would address all concerns, including those specific to Migori County.
Ruto was in Migori to discuss ongoing and future development projects aimed at improving the region’s infrastructure and agricultural productivity. He expressed gratitude to the residents for their commitment to agriculture, which he noted is crucial to Kenya’s food security.
During his speech, the President highlighted the government’s partnership with county authorities to support Community Health Promoters, aiming to improve healthcare access and awareness. He also emphasized the importance of the Social Health Insurance Fund in enhancing inclusivity in healthcare services.
President Ruto’s Nyanza tour, which began in Migori, will continue with visits to Homa Bay, Siaya, and Kisumu counties. Key projects include the commissioning of the Oyugis water project, the Rusinga Ring road, and the Siaya rice mill.
The tour is also marked by thanksgiving ceremonies for key government officials, including National Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi and Energy Cabinet Secretary Opiyo Wandayi.
Ruto’s visit to Raila Odinga’s stronghold underscores his administration’s commitment to regional development, with a focus on infrastructure, healthcare, and economic stimulus projects.
That notwithstanding, the development tour of Nyanza region by Pres William Ruto comes barely a day after he and Orange Democratic Movement Party leader Hon Raila Odinga shook hands during the launching of Raila’s AUC bid in State House.
There are speculations that the Orange Democratic Movement Party leader Hon Raila Odinga might be tempted to support Pres William Ruto’s re-election come 2027.
