President Uhuru Kenyatta has reportedly directed all Jubilee candidates eyeing for elective seats to donate a free packet of maize flour to every voter as a perceived mechanism to draw votes into Azimio – One Kenya vote hunting basket.

According to Gatundu South legislator and Chama Cha Kazi (CCK) party leader Moses Kuria, Uhuru has sent Jubilee candidates to give free every voter a packet of Unga, that is currently retailing at ksh230.

Kuria advised the voters to take Uhuru’s donation and remind Jubilee affiliates that DP Ruto, who is contesting for presidential position under the umbrella of Kenya Kwanza, will hopefully lower the prices of food stuffs when elected in August 9, 2022.

“Uhuru Kenyatta has sent his Jubilee candidates to give you a free packet of Unga for every voter. The retail price for a 2kg packet of Unga is Ksh 230. When Uhuru’s gift comes, take it but send them back with a message to Uhuru. That in 45 days William Ruto will bring down the price of Unga to Ksh 90 for a 2 Kg packet” Kuria shared.

Deputy president William Ruto had protested over the skyrocketing prices of basic and essential commodities especially food stuffs, citing that hustlers are overburdened by the high costs of living that was as a result of failing to put in place interventions such as farm inputs subsidy that could allow farmers to produce enough for consumption and surplus for market.

“A packet of Unga is now retailing at a historic price of more than Sh200. It is sad. Millions of Kenyans are burdened by the high cost of living because of failure to put in place interventions such as farm inputs subsidy that could allow farmers produce enough to eat and surplus for sale” Ruto protested.

He assured that Kenya Kwanza government will promptly address the bottlenecking challenges and lower the prices of food stuffs after taking power in August.

“Those crying about the crisis are responsible for this crisis due to their misplaced priorities. Kenya Kwanza — through its Bottom-Up Economic Plan — will address this problem” he added.
