The People Daily Newspaper has reported that President William Ruto is strategically setting the stage for the 2027 general elections.
Central to his plot is a focus on the ‘dead’ opposition and the impeached Hon. Rigathi Gachagua.
This power strategy aims to secure his re-election by shoring up support across key regions and neutralizing potential threats, especially in Mt. Kenya, a region that could sway the 2027 outcome.
According to the publication, Ruto’s latest moves include attempts to bring former President Uhuru Kenyatta into his political fold.
Analysts suggest this is part of his plan to mitigate any backlash or resistance that might arise from Gachagua’s impeachment and the ensuing dissent within the Mt. Kenya region.
By winning over Uhuru, Ruto hopes to solidify his influence and reduce the impact of any anti-government sentiment.
In addition, the President is said to be working to secure Nyanza’s loyalty by appointing notable political figures from the region into his cabinet.
These moves have bolstered his relationship with Raila Odinga’s base, which has been significant since Ruto’s support for Raila in his African Union Commission (AUC) role.
By creating a coalition of support across different political factions, Ruto appears to be weaving a web of alliances that could fortify his position as the 2027 elections draw closer.
However, the sidelined Deputy President, Hon. Rigathi Gachagua, is reportedly not backing down without a fight. Reports indicate that Gachagua is assembling his allies and resources, preparing for a political showdown.
Political pundits predict that Gachagua, who has significant backing from certain factions within the Mt. Kenya region, may use his influence to rally support independently, creating a potential split that could test Ruto’s strategy.
As the 2027 elections approach, it remains to be seen whether Ruto’s power maneuvers will strengthen his hold on the presidency or if Gachagua’s defiance will spark a division within the ruling party.
