In 2022, when a young and vibrant man from the Nyanza region got a plum government job as the next Interior PS, everyone in the country was filled with hope and positivity that things would get better.
From how collection services were being undertaken to the issues of national security and the ongoing thorn in the flesh of the North Rift Valley region, which is banditry attacks, expectations were high.
Almost two years since his appointment to the docket, which was once held by Dr. Karanja Kibicho, a man from the Mt. Kenya region who locked horns with many due to his leadership style, nothing significant has changed.
Kenyans continue to wait longer to get their national identification cards, and the issue of bandits in the North Rift Valley region has escalated beyond control. Young men and women who hold different opinions from the government or PS Omollo continue to live in fear of being abducted or subjected to extrajudicial killings.
Until his appointment as the PS for Interior and Coordination of National Government, PS Omollo served as the boss of the Lake Basin Development Authority. Locals and leaders, including President William Ruto, loved his passion for delivering, work ethics, and other positive traits.
Currently, it is no longer a secret that Dr. Raymond Omollo appears to have been drunk with power. Instead of concentrating on what he was appointed to do, he has now reduced his popularity to the Nyanza region. Omollo appears to have forgotten that Kenyans need IDs and passports processed quickly and without corruption.
He also seems to have forgotten that those dying in the Rift Valley region are Kenyans’ children and parents. Instead, he focuses on micromanaging Nyanza politics, where anyone who holds a divergent view contrary to his becomes an automatic enemy who deserves nothing but greetings from Rapid Deployment Units and Anti-Terror groups.
