ODM leader Raila Odinga now says that he has detected another flawed presidential election in 2027, in favour of President William Ruto.
Raila has held that even the concluded election was not fair, and that the IEBC helped Ruto to unfairly beat him through among others, rigging him in.
He now claims that plans to do the same are in the making, and Ruto wants to make it smooth in 2027 by ensuring that only friendly commissioners are there.
This, he alleges, is the reason behind the push to remove the four dissenting commissioners, who rejected Ruto’s win and stood with him in August.
Raila says that the main target is Vice Chair Juliana Cherera, who Ruto wants out before IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati’s approaching exit.
He alleges that the plan is to ensure that Chebukati doesn’t hand over to Cherera, hence the push to quickly bring in a new team before his exit.
Raila further claimed that Ruto wants to punish the four, Cherera, Irene Masit, Francis Wanderi and Justus Nyangaya for opposing his August takeover.
“The country wants to move on, UDA is focusing on pushing out commissioners who did not agree with their chairman being trivial, vindictive and vile and must be stopped since it will not end well,” he said in Nairobi on Thursday, reports The Standard.
The four differed with Chebukati’s declaration of Ruto as the President-elect, citing among others, opaqueness of the process preceding the announcement of the presidential results.
This was among the excuses Raila gave in his petition against Ruto’s win at the Supreme Court, a case that as thrown out and Ruto’s win upheld.
