American singer R. Kelly has been put on suicide watch days after he was sentenced to 30 years in prison. He was accused of sex trafficking and racketeering. The singer is currently being held at the federal detention facility in New York.
This statement was made by R. Kelly’s lawyer during a previous interview. However, according to attorney Jennifer Bonjean, she believes that R. Kelly is not suicidal by all means, adding that the singer was afraid of being taken to the suicide watch facility.
According to the attorney, it causes more harm to someone when he or she is placed in a suicide watch yet they are not suicidal. R. Kelly’s has since filed for a lawsuit and moved for a short restraining order.
The lawsuit explained that R. Kelly’s attorneys had consistently called the detention facility to learn of the singer’s well-being but the detention center’s employees kept on hanging on to them. The lawsuit stated that they kept on laughing and lacked a professional aspect.
Attorney Jennifer Bonjean stated that she has received reports from prosecutors who spoke with prison officials that Kelly was under a suicide watch. However, she argued that she didn’t understand why the decision was made. According to Jennifer, R. Kelly is being punished for being a high-profile individual.
This comes days after the singer was put in jail for 30 years after a repetitive series of harassment of children and women. A larger number of women claimed that the singer made them undergo a lot of pain. These charges left the judge with no alternative but to send the singer to jail.
In different incidences, the singer was accused of using fame and his celebrity status to exploit women and children. He was also accused of forging marriage papers and got married to a minor. R. Kelly’s lawyers said that they wouldn’t make an appeal on his case. Find more articles here. Also follow.
