Homa Bay Town Member of Parliament Peter Kaluma has bashed Interior Cabinet Secretary for his ban on political rallies deemed likely to turn chaotic.
Kindiki on Friday banned Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza’s meetings under her outreach programme dubbed Okolea.
This came days after chaos erupted in Mwangaza’s ‘Okolea Program’ function at Makiri, Igembe South Constituency on Sunday.
Kindiki has said that after gathering info that the events are used to incite locals, they have been banned and cannot be held henceforth.
“Reports that have reached me is that the Governor’s (Mwangaza) allies were inciteful, disrupted peace and assaulted journalists….thinking they are defending Meru governor. The targeted people also broke the law,” he said in Igembe Central.
But Kaluma has found this funny, accusing the CS of trying to fight the governor simply because she is a woman and not for the listed reasons.
He has pointed out that Kindiki does not have the power to ban anything and cannot be fighting a person more powerful than him.
“The way men are fighting Governor Kawira Mwangaza because she’s a woman! Imagine Kindiki, with no power to ban any meeting is stopping the meeting of the governor who chairs her County’s Security Committee! Respect women!” the parliamentarian said in a tweet on Saturday.
Kindiki said he is aware that Mwangaza is planning to hold a similar meeting in Imenti Central Constituency this Sunday, vowing that the planned event will not happen and daring the governor to try him.
“We are not going to allow it. If you think it is a joke, try it. Don’t try me,” he said, months after Kindiki also tried to stop opposition protests, which, however, happened in some parts of the country anyway.
